Ilagan's P10-million rehab projects underway

MANILA, Philippines - Cainta Mayor Mon Ilagan recently reported the near completion of two priority infrastructure projects undertaken to facilitate the municipality’s quick recovery from the ravages of Ondoy. Ilagan said the drainage construction and road asphalting project he initiated in Barangay San Isidro, Cainta has passed the halfway mark while the rip-rapping and desilting of Mapandan Creek in Brooksidehills, Cainta is almost done. The two projects cost the local government an aggregate P10 million.

“I want both projects completed as soon as possible since these will be crucial in ensuring our people’s capability to rebound from the setbacks they have experienced last September because of storm Ondoy,” Ilagan said.

The drainage construction and road asphalting venture, which will principally benefit the residents of Bautista/Roosevelt Compound, is now 55 percent finished. Dredging and desilting of Mapandan Creek is 95 percent accomplished while rip-rapping works have reached 65 percent completion. Cainta MPDC Engr. Edmon Pascual said, “we just have to expedite the cutting of trees near the creek in order for us to move this project faster.”

Ilagan said he is proud with the way the rehabilitation projects have progressed, only four months after Ondoy unleashed its fury in the country.

“We really had to prioritize which projects to pursue and which ones can be placed in the back burner in the meantime. We are not backing out from our commitments regarding our other projects, but we recognize that completing these two are far more urgent and far more beneficial at this time,” Ilagan said.
