Dump truck yields guns, ammunition
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna , Philippines – Government forces intercepted a mini-dump truck loaded with high-powered firearms and explosives at a Commission on Elections checkpoint in Buenavista, Quezon last Sunday, and arrested two suspected New People’s Army (NPA) members, police said yesterday.
Chief Superintendent Rolando Añonuevo, Calabarzon police director, identified the arrested suspects as Eduardo Olvinar, alias Ka Royal, confirmed to be an NPA regular, and his driver, Victor Ib-Ib.
Añonuevo said the two yielded an M60, an M-14 rifle, 529 bullets for caliber 7.62, seven M-14 magazines, improvised explosive devices, and four detonating cords with blasting caps.
Charges of illegal possession of firearms (violation of Republic Act 8294) and violation of the Omnibus Election Code have been filed against the suspects before the Quezon prosecutor’s office.
Police said the suspects, on board an Isuzu Elf mini-dump truck, were intercepted in Barangay Lilukin, Buenavista town at around 1 a.m. Sunday.
