Quake rocks parts of north Luzon

MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude 3.9 tectonic earthquake rattled parts of northern Luzon yesterday but did not cause any damage or injuries, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said the tremor struck at around 9:31 a.m. and its epicenter was traced at 12 kilometers southeast of Nueva Era, Ilocos Norte.

Solidum said the quake was felt at Intensity 4 in Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Intensity 3 in Sto. Domingo and Vigan, Ilocos Sur; and Intensity 2 in Laoag and Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte; Bangued, Abra; and Callao, Cagayan.

Solidum said the quake had a depth of 16 kms. – Helen Flores, Teddy Molina and Artemio Dumlao
