LEGAZPI CITY , Philippines – An early morning magnitude 6.0 earthquake rocked Bicol as well as Quezon province yesterday, a week after another tremor of magnitude 5.3 hit the region, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said yesterday.
Alex Baloloy, Phivolcs resident scientist here, said the temblor took place at 2:49 a.m. with its epicenter traced at 156 kilometers northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, with a depth of 31 kms.
Baloloy said it was felt at Intensity 4 in Naga City in Camarines Sur; and Intensity 3 in Virac; and Intensity 2 in Legazpi City in Albay, Cabid-an in Sorsogon, and Guinayangan in Quezon.
Tremors with magnitudes of 5.3 and 3.9 jolted Bicol last Jan. 20 and Jan. 11, respectively.
Meanwhile, a magnitude 4.9 quake shook parts of Mindanao at 5:11 p.m. yesterday. It was felt at Intensity 4 in Surigao City and General Luna, Surigao del Norte. – Cet Dematera, Celso Amo and Helen Flores
