Boy, 11, toys with air gun, kills 5-year-old playmate

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya , Philippines  – Lesson: Never leave your gun within the reach of minors.

This, as an 11-year-old boy toyed with an air gun and aimed it at his playmates in his house in the remote village of Batu in Rizal, Cagayan.

Unfortunately, he accidentally pulled the trigger, hitting a five-year-old girl in the left eye, said Chief Superintendent Robert Damian, Cagayan Valley police director.

The girl was rushed to the nearby Tuao district for first aid treatment and later transferred to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center in Carig, Tuguegarao City where she died.

Damian said the 11-year-old boy is now in the custody of the social welfare office of Rizal town.      – Charlie Lagasca
