Mendoza appeals for fair play

-

MANILA, Philippines - Bulacan Gov. Jon-Jon Mendoza has expressed confidence that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) will not allow itself to be used for illegal or immoral purposes by vested interest groups.

Mendoza issued the statement during a prayer rally by 1,000 of his supporters led by former governor Josie de la Cruz.

He appealed to the poll body for fair play and due process in his motion for reconsideration over the case filed against him by former governor Roberto Pagdanganan.

He also asked the Comelec for a speedy and totally transparent handling of the case.

He said no less than the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting had certified that no cheating or irregularity occurred in the 2007 elections and that he got a clean victory.

“Even the National Movement for Free Elections had issued a statement that I am the duly elected governor of the province of Bulacan,” he said.
