Stolen sugar worth P1.5 million recovered

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna , Philippines  – Police have recovered 500 sacks of refined sugar worth P1.5 million which were stolen by four hijackers in Tiaong, Quezon Wednesday morning.

Two of the hijackers, identified as Christopher Rete and Salve Abundo, were slain in a shootout with lawmen, while their cohorts escaped with the 10-wheeler truck.

With the help of concerned citizens and barangay officials, Superintendent Romano Cardiño, deputy regional director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, said combined elements of the Tiaong police and the CIDG, armed with a search warrant, swooped down on the residence of a certain Ricardo Salvador Sr. in Barangay Talisay and found the 500 sacks of sugar. – Ed Amoroso, Michelle Zoleta
