Abus who beheaded captive hunted

ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines  – Government forces are launching an offensive against suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits who beheaded one of three plywood factory workers they kidnapped in Basilan, a police official said.

The kidnappers killed Mark Singson and left his severed head in a plaza in Isabela City, Basilan after his employer and family failed to paid P1.5 million as “board and lodging fee,” said Superintendent Abubakar Tulawie, Basilan police director.

Singson’s head was found at around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, after the kidnappers informed his employer, Jorge Tan, proprietor of the Hi-Tech Plywood Co., about his execution.

Still being held captive are two Chinese nationals – Bo Shung Tan alias Michael Tan, and Zi Shun Lu alias Oscar Lu – who along with Singson were seized in the Hi-Tech compound in Maluso, Basilan.

Tulawie said the two are believed to be in safe condition, as Tan was able to send a text message to Jorge Tan, his father-in-law, saying they were still alive.

Tulawie said the crisis management committee held an emergency meeting for the rescue of the remaining captives.
