Woman trader slain in ambush

-

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna , Philippines  – A 48-year-old woman trader was killed in an ambush along Barangay Mataywanac, Tuy, Batangas, Sunday morning, police said yesterday.

Senior Superintendent Rene Ong, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 4A director, identified the slain businesswoman as Apolinaria Ibasco, of Tuy. She died on the spot due to gunshot wounds on her head. Ong said Ibasco’s attackers were riding in tandem on a motorcycle and fled toward the highway after the ambush.

Police Superintendent Romano Cardiño, CIDG-4A deputy director, said Ibasco was on her way home on board her Nissan Sentra (ULL-681) when she was waylaid by two armed men at around 10:30 a.m., adding that the gunmen blocked Ibasco’s car and shot her at close range.

The victim was found dead inside the front seat of her car by responding policemen in the ambush site, Cardino said.    – Ed Amoroso
