NPA releases Army corporal

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The New People’s Army (NPA) released Army Cpl. Dominador Alegre shortly before noon yesterday, two weeks after seizing him during a raid on the patrol base of the 72nd Infantry Battalion in Barangay Casoon, Monkayo, Compostela Valley.

In a statement, the NPA’s Merardo Arce Command said the safe and orderly release of Alegre was based on humanitarian grounds.

Alegre was reportedly turned over to Monkayo Vice Mayor Avelino Cabag at around 11 a.m. by the NPA’s Front Committee 33 under Commander Jinggoy at the premises of the Davao National Agricultural School in Barangay Prosperidad in neighboring Montevista town. – Edith Regalado
