Pharmacist charged for shabu delivery in jail

- Artemio Dumlao -

BAGUIO CITY , Philippines  – A pharmacist is now in deep mess after she was charged in court after she was caught delivering shabu to her common-law husband at the Baguio City Jail.

The shabu was supposed to be sold, Chief Inspector Edgar Apalla, chief of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Cordillera said, by the inmate to his patrons inside the jail.

Registered pharmacist Noveline Faith Meris alias “Von”, 37, was seen by a jail guard passing a small flashlight to her live-in partner – Ferdinand Lazaro alias “Bong Singkit”, whom she was visiting at the Baguio City Jail on Oct. 21.

When the guard verified the flashlight, he found a heat-sealed transparent sachet containing shabu-like substance concealed in a mini t-shirt-shaped attachment to the flashlight’s handle.

The jail guard, according to Apalla had to run to catch up with the pharmacist who hurriedly left the jail premises after the latter’s plan to slip in the shabu got busted.

Meris and the seized shabu were later turned over to the Drug Enforcement Unit of the Baguio City Police Office.

A case for Violation of Section 5 (delivery of shabu) in relation to Section 26b (conspiracy to sell shabu) of RA 9165 (the new drug law) was filed at the Baguio City drug court against Meris, docketed under Criminal Case Number 29997-R.
