Lucena City , Philippines – Another month extension to avail of the gun amnesty is being requested by stakeholders and gun holders in this city for them to fully complete the requirements set by the Gun and Explosives Division of the Philippine National Police.
Police Superintendent Pascual Muñoz, Lucena City police chief said that a number of gun holders who wish to register and have their firearms licensed asked for an extension due to financial difficulty to pay fees. Some documents were were also misplaced because of their supposed evacuation during the typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.
Executive Order 817 states that the gun amnesty will end on Oct. 30, 2009. However, according to Pascual gun holders appealed to him to have another extension for them to complete the requirements because many of them wanted to have their firearms registered and licensed.
Pascual also said that the gun amnesty is an approach to eradicate unlicensed firearms and to lessen if not totally wipe out crimes thus making them responsible gun owners.
The fees for gun amnesty depends on different kinds of firearms.
