Pagdanganan to run for Congress
MALOLOS CITY , Philippines – Former Bulacan governor Roberto Pagdanganan confirmed that he will run for the first congressional district of the province in next year’s polls.
This will pit him against first-termer Rep. Marivic Alvarado, the wife of incumbent Vice Gov. Wilhelmino Alvarado who is eyeing the gubernatorial post next year.
A three term congressman, Alvarado ran as Pagdanganan’s running mate in the 2007 elections.
“Its true I’m running for the first congressional seat next year,” Pagdanganan told The STAR.
However, he denied rumors that he is now allied with incumbent Gov. Joselito Mendoza, a former barangay captain who defeated him in the last elections.
A Lakas-CMD standard bearer in Bulacan in the 2007 elections, Pagdanganan said that as of the moment he “will run as an independent,” but said he is open to any party.
If elected to Congress, Pagdanganan vowed to push for universal health coverage for Filipinos, revisit laws on the Philippine Health Insurance, and privileges for barangay officials like scholarships for their children. – Dino Balabo
