Agham holds disaster preparedness forum

ANGELES CITY, Pampanga , Philippines  – Taking a more proactive stance to disaster preparedness after the devastation caused by typhoon Ondoy, Agham party-list organized a typhoon and flood hazards awareness forum yesterday. 

The forum was attended by local government officials and concerned citizens from different parts of Pampanga. Invited to attend the event were the Councilmen’s League of Angeles City led by its president Harry Castro, councilors from Mabalacat, Magalang and Porac, barangay captains, youth and fraternity leaders, church representatives and members of the transport sector, among others.

With the theme “Bagyo, Baha, Ready ka na Bro!” the forum has a three-pronged objective: Information dissemination on what should be done before, during and after disasters; create awareness on flood hazards and mitigating its effects and relate this to the bigger issue of climate change and what citizens can do to avert its consequences.

Sharing their expertise on the subject matter were officials from the Department of Science and Technology Region III and Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration. Weather specialists Sha­ron Arruejo and Hilton Hernandez, and assistant weather services chief Rosalinda de Guzman from Pagasa were the resource persons for the event.

Agham is a non-stock, non-profit organization, SEC-registered advocating science and technology as a steering force for national development and progress. Its members are composed of sci-tech teachers, field and laboratory researchers, technicians and laborers, engineers, health professionals and science media practitioners.
