Taiwanese poachers nabbed near Cagayan
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Coast Guard recently apprehended four Taiwanese who were allegedly caught poaching near the waters of Cagayan province.
PCG commandant Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo yesterday said that the Coast Guard Detachment in Calayan Islands in Cagayan province apprehended the four Taiwanese fishermen crew as Liu Rong Tsair, Guu Ming Jong, Huang Ping Ho and Lee E Ren.
Found on board the Taiwanese fishing vessel TFV Qing Xing BK-6705 were different species of fishes.
Tamayo said they have set up the PCG detachment in Calayan Islands precisely to counter the illegal fishing in the area. They have reportedly been receiving reports that poachers have been sighted in the area.
Initial information reaching the PCG headquarters showed that local fishermen informed the PCG that foreign fishing boats were spotted near the Calayan Islands.
They began patrolling the area and spotted the Taiwanese vessel at 7 a.m. of Sept. 20. The TFV Qing Xing BK-6705 tried to escape but the PCG was able to catch up and apprehend it approximately two nautical miles East of Barangay Dilam, Calayan, Cagayan. – Evelyn Macairan
