Supreme Court affirms Sarmiento win

MANILA, Philippines - The Supreme Court (SC) has upheld the proclamation of former congressman Angelito Sarmiento as duly elected mayor of San Jose del Monte City in Bulacan.

In a one-page resolution, the SC junked the petition which acting Mayor Reynaldo San Pedro filed last week seeking to nullify a Commission on Elections order last Sept. 8 ordering him to relinquish his post to Sarmiento, who was declared by the poll body the real winner in the 2007 mayoral race last March.

San Pedro assumed the post following the death of Mayor Eduardo Roquero last Aug. 25.               – Edu Punay
