Davao rebels ambush police-military convoy
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Suspected New People’s Army rebels ambushed a joint police-military team on its way to investigate the reported killing of a civilian by the insurgents in Toril district this city the other day.
Chief Superintendent Pedro Tango, Southern Mindanao police director, said the four-vehicle convoy of the policemen and soldiers was heading toward Barangay Sibulan when an improvised explosive planted by the roadside went off.
After the explosion, the rebels positioned on a hill along the highway fired at the team, though wounding no one. – Edith Regalado
