Task force Probing mayor's slay

MANILA, Philippines - A police task force is now coordinating with the Samar police to get more information on last Thursday’s killing of the mayor of Matuguinao town.

Two men gunned down Mayor Carlos de la Cruz and wounded his nephew, Joel Andal, an auditor of the Commission on Audit’s regional office.

Following up the case is Task Group EGO (Elected Government Officials), which Philippine National Police chief Director General Jesus Verzosa activated last month to investigate violence against these executives.

PNP records show that 52 elected government officials had been attacked from Jan. 1 to May 20 this year. – Cecille Suerte Felipe
