Illegal loggers from Quirino, Isabela invade Aurora

DIPACULAO, Aurora, Philippines – Illegal logging syndicates from the provinces of Quirino and Isabela have invaded the forests of the province even amid the campaign waged by provincial officials.

Gov. Bellaflor Angara-Castillo told The STAR that illegal loggers have now encroached the forested areas in the province, gaining access through Barangay Calaocan and smuggle forest products.

“Illegal loggers are cutting down trees in Aurora. Definitely they are not Aurorans but outsiders,” she said.

A resident of Dilasag reported to Angara-Castillo that the illegal loggers come from Quirino and Isabela who have turned to Aurora after feeling the heat of the illegal logging drive in these areas, particularly in Isabela.

Angara-Castillo said the provincial government will go after those responsible for illegal logging operations by tree-cutters or protectors. “There is no sacred cow in this campaign,” she said. – Manny Galvez
