5 Ateneo mountaineers rescued

-

BATANGAS CITY, Philippines – Police yesterday rescued five members of the Ateneo Mountaineering Club who were stranded at Mt. Malarayat for two days.

Senior Superintendent Jesus Gatchalian, Batangas police director, said the mountaineers lost track after their guide left them, as agreed upon, at the Lipa-San Pablo trail Wednesday.

The following day, they were able to send text messages to their co-mountaineers in Ateneo before their cell phones’ batteries ran low, and the latter informed Camp Crame about their ordeal, leading to the rescue. – Arnell Ozaeta
