NPA admits disarming government engineer

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – The New People’s Army (NPA) yesterday admitted having barged into the district engineering office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Gubat, Sorsogon the other day and carting away a caliber 9-mm pistol from the district engineer.

Greg Bañares, spokesman of the National Democratic Front in Bicol, alleged on Bombo Radyo-Legazpi that DPWH second district engineer Edgar Coratibo had committed abuses and sown fear by displaying his handgun in public places, particularly during project inspections.

Coratibo, however, was mum on the incident, reportedly refusing police investigation and neither denying nor confirming the event. – Cet Dematera
