Caraga police detonates bomb
CAMP RAFAEL RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City, Philippines – The EOD team of the 1302nd Maritime Police Precinct based in Nasipit International Sea Port in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte detonated an improvised explosive found by a civilian near the SuperFerry ticketing office which is located within the Nasipit Port compound Sunday afternoon.
According to the Caraga Police Information Office here the EOD was allegedly made of less than half a kilo of ammonium nitrate with nails connected to an electrical detonating device.
Caraga Police Regional director Chief Superintendent Jaime Elorita Milla lauded the heroism of a certain Mira who first saw the explosive device ready to explode and reported it to the police prompting a detonating team from the EOD of the Maritime police in the area to respond immediately.
Milla said he found the explosive which was different from the explosives being used by terrorist groups operating in Mindanao.
“The explosive was meant to kill, hurt and damage some things, but fortunately Mr. Mira saw it, if not it could have been another story,” Milla said.
It was not explained, however, why it was planted near the SuperFerry ticketing office as no one or any group have admitted so far to be responsible in placing the bomb in a crowded public place. – Ben Serrano
