Pangasinan cop gunned down

BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan, Philippines – A policeman here was gunned down by two unidentified suspects around 7:20 a.m. yesterday along the national road in Barangay Nalsian Sur while driving his motorcycle on his way to report for duty at the Bayambang Police Station.

The fatality was identified as Senior Police Officer 1 Renato Valencia, 49, assigned as intelligence operative here and lived in Barangay Warey in nearby Malasiqui town. He sustained five gunshot wounds in different parts of his body from a .45 caliber based on evidence gathered by policemen at the crime scene where four empty shells of said gun were recovered. Valencia was rushed to the Bayambang District Hospital but his attending physician declared him dead on arrival. The two gunmen who rode in tandem on a motorcycle fled towards southern direction. – Eva Visperas
