Quezon eyes first biomass power plant in RP

-

Unisan, Quezon, Philippines – In order to sustain electrical usage for the whole province and independence from other service charges imposed by some agencies, an 11-megawatt biomass power plant will be constructed within the year to supply electricity for the Luzon grid.

This was revealed by Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez in his address during the 31st general assembly of the Quezon Electric Cooperative (QUEZELCO) at Pitogo, Quezon on Friday.

After a long systematic planning and negotiation with other countries who are having an operational biomass power plant, Suarez said that QUEZELZO only requires 22 megawatts for consumption of the whole province which they can provide by building three biomass plants in Catanauan, Calauag and Unisan, Quezon consolidating electrical supply of about 33 megawatts.

He cited the possible construction of the same in Camarines Sur through the initiative of Rep. Diosdado “Dato” Arroyo.

Suarez said the said power plant is for electrical privileges and for income generation of farmers who will supply the biological materials for industrial production such as coconut twigs, dead trees and branches, yard clippings and wood chips for biofuel.

Suarez said that two months from now, 14 international electrical engineers from India and France will conduct a feasibility study to design the project. – Michelle Zoleta
