Graft raps vs vice mayor, cop-husband

MANILA, Philippines – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed graft charges against a woman vice mayor in Cebu and her policeman husband before the Office of the Ombudsman.

In an eight-page report to the Ombudsman, NBI Director Nestor Mantaring said investigation showed no sufficient explanation for the huge increase in the net worth of Vice Mayor Ma. Luisa Judal Loot of Daanbantayan town and her husband, Senior Superintendent Vicente Areño Loot, for 2006 and 2007.

Aside from the unexplained increase in their assets, the Loots also have properties under their names that were not reflected in their joint Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth. – Sandy Araneta
