2 nephews of ex-Batangas mayor die in road mishap
BATANGAS CITY, Philippines – Two nephews of a former mayor of this city were killed instantly when their motorcycle rammed into a cargo truck along the national highway here Thursday evening police said.
Superintendent Manuel Abu, Batangas City police chief, identified the victims as Dondon and Chris Berberabe, both residents of village Pinamucan, here and both nephews of former Batangas City mayor Dado Berberabe.
Abu said the victims were on board a motorcycle (1802 MCDQ) and were traveling along the road in Barangay Gulod Labac when the accident happened around 8:40 p.m.
Probers said the motorcycle rammed into a Manila bound LPG loaded bullet truck bearing license plates PYZ 204 and NUT 965 driven by Reynaldo Tero, a resident of Barangay Marauoy, Lipa City.
Tero surrendered to the authorities after the incident and could face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to double homicide.
The victims’ bodies were brought to Funeraria Eternal this city for autopsy.
In related developments, two females aged 17 were killed when a car ran them over at the national highway in Bay, Laguna early yesterday morning, police said.
Senior Superintendent Manolito Labador, Laguna police director identified the victims as Fatima Solis, a resident of Barangay Sto. Domingo and Gretchen Banan, a resident of Barangay Batong Malake both in Bay, Laguna.
According to reports, the victims were on their way to work in a nearby bakery store and about to cross the national highway in Barangay Sto. Domingo when a Honda City car (XCC-452) driven by Joel Aldemita hit the victims around 4:35 a.m.
The victims were rushed to the Laguna Doctors Hospital but they were declared dead upon arrival at the said hospital.
Aldemita was detained at the Bay police station and could face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to double homicide while the victims’ remains were brought to Balubayan Funeral Homes for autopsy. – Arnell Ozaeta, Ed Amoroso
