Family of 5 hurt in NPA strike
LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – Five family members, including three children aged two to five were wounded when retreating New People’s Army (NPA) rebels fired an M-203 grenade launcher against advancing government troops in a hinterland village in Ligao City, Albay the other day.
Col. Ariel Bernardo, commanding officer of the Army’s 901st Infantry Brigade based in Daraga town, said men of the 2nd Infantry Battalion chanced upon a band of NPA rebels who were meeting in Barangay Balanac supposedly to sabotage the Philippine-United States Balikatan military exercise in April. – Celso Amo
