Cop, woman killed in Ilocos

Vigan City, Ilocos Sur – An Ilocos Sur policeman and his “girlfriend” were peppered with bullets by motorcycle-rding gunmen armed with assault rifles Friday evening in Bantay town, Ilocos Sur.

Senior Police Officer 4 Quirino Palacpac Peria, 48 years old and a member of the Lidlidda town police station suffered numerous gunshot wounds especially on his head. Nancy Carino Peros, 25, also bore several gunshot wounds from M16 Armalite rifles.

Investigators said that the policeman was bringing the girl to her house aboard a motorcycle when gunmen started to fire at them.

Scene of the crime operatives found the already dead body of the policeman whose head they described has been unrecognizable because of the gunshot wounds from the assault rifle.

Police who are still facing a blank wall on the motive of the grizzly crime. Police found 21 empty cartridges of M16 assault rifle at the scene.

Last year, several incidents of unsolved killings occurred in Ilocos Sur, some linked to local political rivalries. Mostly though, were the handiwork of hired guns, said to be still proliferating in Ilocos Sur. – Artemio Dumlao
