Yakult teaches students to recycle

Yakult recently concluded its annual school program that teaches children to creatively recycle used bottles and transform them into works of art.

For the fifth straight year, Yakult challenged public elementary students nationwide to create beautiful lanterns in a contest held in cooperation with the Department of Education. More than P300,000 in cash and gifts were awarded nationwide to entries that successfully depicted treasured Filipino values.

The program has received various citations and commendations for its unique approach in teaching students to creatively recycle to produce works of art. All entries utilized mostly empty bottles of Yakult and were surprisingly made by elementary school students under the guidance of their teachers.

Mike Ong, marketing director of Yakult Philippines, said the program already has a loyal following that schools go all-out in preparing entries that have become bigger, grander and more intricate through the years.

A total of one million students from 11,000 schools have participated in the Yakult program to date.

More than 4,500 entries from 1,500 elementary schools in Regions 3, 4-A, 7, 11 and the National Capital Region took part in this year’s contest.
