Rains to continue over Bicol, Visayas and Mindanao

- Ghio Ong, Helen Flores -

The tail-end of a cold front and a shallow low pressure area (SLPA) off southern Mindanao would continue to bring moderate rains over some parts of the country in the next two days, the government weather bureau said yesterday.

Ludy Alviar, weather forecaster of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said rains would prevail over the Bicol region, the Visayas and Mindanao in the next two days.

Rains will be widespread over the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao, which may trigger flash floods and landslides, she said.

Aside from partly cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers, Alviar said good weather would prevail over the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, in the next 48 hours.

Based on their latest forecast, she said the SLPA, which was estimated at 2 p.m. yesterday at 180 kilometers east of southern Mindanao, will unlikely develop into a tropical cyclone.

Meanwhile, Alviar said temperatures in the country are expected to slightly increase this week due to cloud formation brought about by the northeast monsoon.

She said the minimum temperature – the lowest temperature of the day – recorded in Metro Manila went from 18.6 degrees Celsius last Saturday to 20.3 degrees Celsius yesterday.

In Baguio City, there was also a slight increase in the temperature from 9.6 degrees Celsius last Saturday to 11.8 degrees Celsius yesterday, she said.

The lowest temperatures recorded in Baguio City and Metro Manila this year were 7.5 degrees Celsius and 18.1 degrees Celsius, respectively.
