Strong aftershock hits General Santos City

A magnitude 5.7 aftershock struck General Santos City early yesterday morning following the strong earthquake that hit it on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said the quake was recorded at 2:12 a.m., with its epicenter traced at 138 kilometers southwest of General Santos City.

No casualty or damage was initially reported, Phivolcs said.

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake rocked parts of Mindanao on Christmas Day. It was felt at Intensity 5 in General Santos City and Intensity 3 in the cities of Kidapawan and Cotabato.

The epicenter of the Thursday quake was located some 85 kms northeast of General Santos City.
