Metro Vigan water firm's executive killed

Vigan City – Motorcycle-riding men gunned down the manager of the Metro Vigan Water District in front of his house in the Ilocos Sur town of Caoayan last Tuesday, authorities said.

Police said engineer Edgardo Damian, 51, was standing in front of his residence in Barangay Anonang when the two men shot him thrice with a caliber .45 pistol.

Police have remained clueless on the killing.

Also in Ilocos Sur, a barangay chairman and his son survived a slay attempt in Santiago town last Sunday night.

Dan-ar barangay chairman Federico Gaoat, 52, and his son, Arnel, 26, were walking home from a relative’s wake when they were attacked. Father and son have been in critical condition due to multiple bullet wounds.

Senior Superintendent Virgilio Fabros, Ilocos Sur police director, said politics was behind the attack on the Gaoats.

Probers found 14 empty M-16 shells, four caliber .30 shells, and 49 caliber 9-mm shells at the crime scene.
