Woman throws infant son off ship

-

BACOLOD CITY – A 27-year-old woman threw her one-year-old son off a passenger vessel and then tried to commit suicide by jumping overboard while the Bacolod-bound ship was cruising near Sicogon Island in Carles, Iloilo yesterday morning, authorities said.

The crew of M/V St. Peter owned by Negros Navigation managed to rescue Flordeluna Pabuaya, a resident of Barangay Puno Banago here, 40 minutes after she had jumped off, and recovered the body of her son Jacob, Coast Guard commander Harold Jarder said.

Quoting reports, Jarder said Pabuaya was traveling from Manila with her father-in-law, who said this was not the first time that she tried to commit suicide.

Pabuaya faces parricide charges for her son’s death, Jarder said.
