SCTEX upgrading job slated on Dec. 2-16

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), builder of the 94-kilometer Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), has scheduled a two-week road improvement work on a 400-meter westbound portion of the tollway at the approach of the Dinalupihan viaduct in anticipation of the heavy vehicular traffic during the holidays.

The pavement upgrading job will be undertaken on Dec. 2 to 16.

As a result, a 2.3-kilometer stretch of the westbound portion of the tollway is temporarily closed to traffic while the work is going on.

To compensate, a one-lane counter-flow of the same distance would be implemented at the eastbound portion.

The SCTEX service provider for operations and maintenance, a joint venture of First Philippine Holdings Corp. (FPHC), Egis Road Operation and Tollways Management Corp. (TMC) has installed an adequate number of informative signages, traffic cones, flashing arrows and tower lights to guide motorists for a safe and speedy passage at the jobsite.

Traffic enforcers and other field crews in the area have been beefed up to ensure the smooth flow of vehicular traffic and keep public inconvenience at the barest minimum level.

Winston Cruz, acting SCTEX spokesman and program manager of the SCTEX operational support services, said the BCDA strictly adheres to a continuing road improvement program not only to prolong the roadway’s lifespan but also to ensure optimum public safety and comfort.

“This is keeping with our corporate policy of pursuing a proactive approach in all our major undertakings,” Cruz said.
