Taiwan ship runs aground

-

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued 29 passengers and crewmen of a Taiwanese ship that ran aground off Currimao, Ilocos Norte Thursday night.

PCG commandant Vice Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo said he was informed that 16 passengers of the cargo ship Juitai-1 were rescued while the 13 crewmembers remained on board the vessel.

The PCG action center received a radio message at around 10 p.m. Thursday from the Taiwanese Rescue Coordinating Council that the Juitai-1 had sent a distress signal after it ran aground some three nautical miles off the Currimao port. – Evelyn Macairan
