2 ex-Bacolod cop chiefs hunted for kidnap-slay

BACOLOD CITY – The National Bureau of Investigation has intensified its hunt for two former police chiefs of this city and their alleged accomplices in the kidnapping-slay of a village head and two others in 2003.

NBI-Bacolod chief Mamerto Cortez said they would tap their other offices nationwide to look for former Bacolod police chiefs Vicente Ponteras and George Bajelot who was ordered arrested by Judge Mario Trinidad of the Guihulngan, Negros Oriental regional trial court.

Ponteras, Bajelot and seven others – businessman Manolo Escalante, Ramonito Estanislao, Inspector Bonifer Gotas, SPO1 Nelson Grijaldo, PO1 Dennis Belandres, Richard Salazar and Ruel Villacana – have been charged for the kidnapping-slay of Barangay Pahanocoy chairman Eleuterio Salabas, his nephew Maximo Lomoljo and maritime instructor Ricardo Suganob in August 2003.       – Antonieta Lopez
