Mussels down 10 Lucena residents

-

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Ten members of three families in Lucena City, Quezon, mostly children aged one to 10, were hospitalized the other day after they ate mussels (tahong) suspected to be contaminated with red tide microorganisms, authorities said.

The victims experienced vomiting and dizziness after eating the mussels bought from the Dalahican fishport. They were rushed to the Quezon Medical Center in Lucena.

Local health authorities are now investigating if the victims indeed suffered from paralytic shellfish poisoning. – Ed Amoroso, Michelle Zoleta
