Newly born baby kidnapped in hospital
ILOILO CITY – An unidentified woman disguised as a nurse kidnapped a newly born baby girl at a rural hospital here Friday morning in what appears to be an offshoot of a feud between two families.
Rosalina Anino was cradling her granddaughter Jurosh Portillo inside the OB ward of the Aleosan District Hospital in Alimodian town when a woman dressed as a nurse complete with a surgical mask approached her at around 9 a.m. and asked for the baby. The suspected kidnapper told the grandmother that she would bathe the baby.
The baby’s mother, 19-year-old Rose Ann Anino of Sitio Arca, Poblacion, Alimodian town had just given birth to the baby girl at 6:28 a.m. that same day. The family was alarmed when two hours have lapsed already without the nurse returning the baby to them.
The family inquired from hospital staff about the baby, and only then was it known that none of them had taken the baby, and that the woman who took the baby was not a hospital nurse.
The police have yet no identity of the kidnapper, nor of the whereabouts of the baby, but initial investigation shows that the kidnapping might be related to a feud between the family of the mother and the father of the baby, case investigator Police Officer 2 Sandy Jarder of the Alimodian police station told The STAR yesterday.
“Our investigation is focused at that angle. What we are now trying to know is whose family is behind the kidnapping of the baby,” Jarder said.
Police have already invited the father, 23-year-old John Edcel Portillo for questioning. They have yet to talk to the mother because she is still recuperating in the hospital.
”We are tracing the history of the relationship,” Jarder said.
Although both are residents of the same barangay, Portillo and Anino met each other through text. They had a relationship, which later resulted to Portillo impregnating Anino.
During Anino’s pregnancy, proposals for the marriage of the two were made, but the girl’s parents would not approve of the marriage of their eldest daughter to Portilio, Jarder said.
