Quakes jolt parts of RP

Two tectonic earthquakes rocked parts of the country yesterday but there were no reports of damage or injury, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) director Renato Solidum said.

The first quake of magnitude 5 occurred at 4:25 a.m. with its epicenter traced at 123 kilometers northeast of Laoag City, Solidum said.

It was felt at Intensity 2 in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, and Callao Cave and Peñablanca in Cagayan.

The second tremor of magnitude 3.6 struck at 1:14 p.m. and was located some 16 kms southwest of Cebu City, where it was felt at Intensity 3.

Meanwhile, a magnitude 4.2 quake also jolted parts of Mindoro late Monday night.

Solidum said the temblor struck at 11:37 p.m. and was centered some 32 kms northwest of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro.

The quake was felt at Intensity 4 in Paluan, Occidental Mindoro.   – Helen Flores
