Jail escapee rearrested after 20 minutes

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – A detainee facing a rape case found himself in deep trouble shortly after he escaped but was recaptured after 20 minutes Saturday evening at the police jail here.

Police Superintendent Harris Fama, Lingayen chief of police, identified the recaptured detainee as Ramon Ancheta, 40, of Casulming street in Barangay Maniboc here.

Fama said Ancheta is facing rape charges with no bail recommended docketed at the Regional Trial Court Branch 69 here.

Investigation showed that prior to the foiled escape of Ancheta, duty jailguard PO3 Arturo Cruz opened the jail gate to deliver food stuff to another detainee given by his mother.

At that juncture, Ancheta forcibly pushed the jail gate and ran outside the police station.

Fama said duty police officers led by Chief Inspector Medardo Soriano, deputy chief of police immediately conducted a manhunt operation against Ancheta.

Ancheta was collared by the pursuing policemen about 20 minutes after his escape.       – Cesar Ramirez
