CPP-NPA amazon captured

- Jaime Laude -

Combined military and police agents arrested Sunday afternoon a female party committee member of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army in General Santos City.

Mercy Maghinay, 29, alias Genevie Maghinay, was nabbed in joint operations launched by the Joint Task Force GenSan at about 2:30 p.m. at a rebel safehouse by virtue of an arrest warrant for four counts of frustrated murder and damage to properties charges.

Maj. Armand Rico, Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) spokesman, tagged Maghinay as a CPP party member directly involved in the insurgents’ white area liquidation squad and revolutionary taxation operations.

Fomerly based in Western Mindanao, Maghinay, a native of San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur, reportedly moved to General Santos City to cool off due to pending cases filed against her in various courts in the region.

“She was cornered by our men inside an insurgents’ safehouse in General Santos City,” Rico said, adding that Maghinay’s arrest was a result of several months of intelligence build up.

At the time of her arrest, Rico said Maghinay is still the Special Sector secretary of the CPP-NPA Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC).

In charge of the CPP-NPA’s white area operations in Western Mindanao, Maghinay reportedly planned and ordered several liquidations and ambuscades against police and military troops.

“Maraming kaso siyang iniwanan sa Zamboanga dahil directly involved siya sa mga liquidation and sparrow operations doon,” Rico said.

Rico said that prior to her arrest in General Santos, Maghinay, was monitored to be hiding behind several of CPP’s front organizations in Central Mindanao.
