Government seismologists have recorded a total of 1,620 aftershocks generated by the 6.5 magnitude earthquake that struck Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro last Saturday.
Only five though of the aftershocks recorded as of 2 p.m. yesterday were felt, according to Renato Solidum, director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Solidum said the latest aftershock of magnitude 5.3 occurred at 2:04 a.m. yesterday with its epicenter traced at 42 kilometers northwest of Mamburao town.
The tremor was felt at Intensity 4 in Paluan, Occidental Mindoro, Intensity 3 in Puerto Galera, and Intensity 2 in the cities of Tagaytay, Makati, Quezon and Muntinlupa.
Solidum said two aftershocks of magnitude 3 were also recorded at 7:11 p.m. and 8:22 p.m. Wednesday, both felt in Paluan town.
The Phivolcs chief said more aftershocks are expected in the coming days.
