A bank teller was shot dead while his manager was wounded during a P1-million robbery staged by motorcycle-riding men in Taytay, Rizal Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent Ireneo Dordas, Rizal police director, said they have identified the suspects in the killing of Melchor Vero, teller of the Bank of Commerce branch in Marikina City, and the wounding of bank manager Daniel Aliliran.
“We have identified the group behind the brutal heist. My men are already after them,” Dordas told reporters.
Vero sustained gunshot wounds in the body and head while Aliliran was hit in the body and rushed to the Manila East Medical Center.
The two bank employees had just collected at least P1 million from a client in Taytay town and were on their way back to Marikina City when intercepted by the two robbers along the national road in Barangay San Juan at around 12 noon Tuesday.
The robbers opened fire at the Toyota RAV-4 driven by Aliliran when he refused to stop despite being flagged down.
After grabbing the bag containing the money, the robbers fled on board an unlicensed motorcycle toward Pasig City.
Police found 12 spent shells and three slugs from a caliber 9-mm pistol at the crime scene.
Dordas said the robbers are behind the rash of heists in eastern Metro Manila and Rizal.
