Comelec nixes recall move vs Abra town's husband-wife tandem

BAGUIO CITY – The Commission on Elections sitting en banc reportedly junked a recall petition filed against Dolores town (Abra) mayor Albert Guzman and his wife, Vice Mayor Socorro Guzman.

Ruling it as insufficient in form and substance on Aug. 31, the Comelec, quoted by local radio station Bombo Radyo, rejected the recall petition filed by Cosmeli Bringas.

Bringas, a retired teacher from Poblacion, Dolores town, complained in her petition before the Comelec, that town projects’ implementation are roughshod. She sought relief from the Comelec on July 28, on her complaints against the husband-wife tandem in her town.

The vice mayor is a younger sister of former governor Vicente Valera, tagged in the assassination of Abra Rep. Luis Bersamin. The former governor was linked by authorities to other killings in the province.

Comelec has placed the junked recall petition as the first to be decided upon in the country among 16 other cases.     – Artemio Dumlao
