13 people injured in Antipolo accident
At least 13 people were hurt when the passenger jeepney they were riding lost its engine before smashing a concrete fence and turned turtle in Antipolo City yesterday.
The driver of the ill-fated jeepney, Estanislao Tasi, 20, of No. 36 Galaxy street, Cielito Homes, Taytay, Rizal gave himself up to the local police right after the incident.
Police are readying reckless imprudence resulting to multiple physical injuries charges against Tasi.
Those hurt were Ramil Andades, 28; MaryAnn Avila, 30; Annalyn Bigayan, 18; Jun Gerero, 18; Federico Veloso, 29; Virgilita Doblado, 41; Maola Teovisio, 38; Rizalyn Calura, 19; Niel Adrian, 24; Jayvee Jalayajay, 16; Jomar Sarucan, 15; Gerardo Villamil, 34 and Dionito Carinado, 20; all residents of Antipolo City.
The victims were rushed to the Unciano Medical Center for treatment.
The jeepney was on its way to Taytay town and maneuvering a downward portion of the Ortigas Extension in Barangay De la Paz when its engine was detached from its body and fell in the middle of the road.
Tasi decided to ram the jeepney into the cemented fence to make it stop.
However, because of the sudden impact, Tasi lost control of the vehicle and it turned turtle, resulting to injuries to his passengers. – Non Alquitran
