Taiwanese drowns in Zambales

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – A Taiwanese national drowned while crossing the river at Sitio Maningor, Barangay Lawis, Candelaria, Zambales, Saturday morning.

Senior Superintendent Rolando Felix, Zambales Provincial Police director, identified the victim as Paul Tsu, 51, temporarily residing in Barangay Sta Rita, Cabangan, Zambales.

The victim, together with his friends Ed Eugenio, Roland Asera and Rolly Ruiz were crossing the river when he allegedly slipped and was swept by strong current of water, Felix said.

He said the victim was reportedly invited to visit the stock file of chromites at the mining site in Sitio Camote, 15-kms. away from the national highway owned by the Ruiz Family when the tragedy happened.

Search and rescue team from the Zambales police and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) found the body of the victim yesterday at about 8 a.m. at Sito Pita, Barangay Pinagrealan, Candelaria town.

The victim’s body was brought to the Candelaria District Hospital for autopsy to determine if there was foul play, Felix said.    Ric Sapnu
