Sayyaf man with P.15-M bounty falls

-

ZAMBOANGA CITY – An Abu Sayyaf member with a P150,000 bounty was arrested last Friday after disembarking here from a ferry from Basilan, police said.

The suspect, Ahmad Edris, was one of the original followers of Abu Sayyaf founder Abubakar Abdurajak Janjalani, who was killed in December 1998 and succeeded by his brother, Khadaffy Janjalani, believed slain in Patikul, Sulu in 2006, police said.

Senior Superintendent Lurimer Detran, city police chief, said Edris was accosted by virtue of an arrest warrant for kidnapping and frustrated murder from the Basilan court.

Edris’ arrest came as police were beefing up security for the mass protest today against the signing of an ancestral domain agreement between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.   Roel Pareño
