La Union task force on shabu lab eyes hand of other officials

- Eva Visperas, Jun Elias -

CAMP OSCAR FLORENDO, La Union – Philippine National Police chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr. said yesterday he has ordered a rigid probe on the discovered shabu laboratory in Naguilian, La Union, including the police official allegedly involved as well as the possible involvement of more officials as protectors of those operating it.

Razon told local newsmen here yesterday when he attended the Regional Peace and Order Council meeting that he is lauding the efforts of the local, provincial and regional police in the discovery of the clandestine shabu laboratory where chemicals were seized that could produce as much as P1 trillion worth of shabu (methamphetamine hydrocholoride).

“This shows the sustained efforts of the police against illegal drugs,” he said.

He said he is also looking into the connections of the discovered shabu laboratory in Real, Quezon recently and the Naguilian shabu laboratory.

He added that the police official whom he identified as Colonel Borromeo implicated by one of the arrested caretakers is now in Camp Crame facing probe.

Razon said one objective of the Task Force is to look into the possible involvement of some other police officials.

“I think meron pang iba (there are others) so we ordered a deeper probe,” he said.

Pangasinan Gov. Amado Espino Jr., chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council in the Ilocos region, told local newsmen that being one of the authors of the Dangerous Drugs Act and himself a retired police colonel, he is so concerned about it considering the volume uncovered.
