- Ben Serrano -

BUTUAN CITY – Nine passengers of a mini bus were killed on the spot while 11 others sustained injuries when the vehicle lost its brakes and fell into a ravine in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur last Monday afternoon, a belated report said.

Chief Superintendent Jaime Eloreta-Milla, Caraga police director, said the Norman Dee mini bus with license plate GTH-139 was speeding toward Hinatuan from Barobo town when it met the tragedy in Barangay Baculin.

Police identified seven of the fatalities as Fausto Quezada, 77; Helinita Montilla and her 10-year-old daughter; Bellaza Casagda, 52; Julieto Soriano, 52; Juamar Ronquillo, four; and Juan Llamas, one.

The road accident is considered the worst so far this year in the Caraga region, comprised of the Surigao and Agusan provinces.
