Panlilio’s legal officer resigns

-

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The legal officer of Gov. Ed Panlilio reportedly resigned from her post on Tuesday.

Panlilio was allegedly disappointed over the resignation of lawyer Maria Elissa Velez, provincial legal officer.

Reports showed Velez resigned from her post on Tuesday and on that date she also did not report to her office.

Panlilio in an interview with reporters said he received Velez’s resignation at about 4 p.m. Tuesday. The governor said he was surprised with the untimely resignation of Velez.

Panlilio seemed to be close-lipped on the reason behind the resignation of the provincial legal officer. In his statement, he said Velez merely stated in her letter that she wanted to resign. “There are things that are better to be left between me and her to talk about.”

The governor also said that while Velez resigned he would not place the Office of the Provincial Legal Officer vacant.

Panlilio said he will talk to Velez soon to discuss the matter, adding that he will respect whatever his legal officer’s decision is during their meeting.

It is recalled that the Pampanga Provincial Board has raised the issue of “morality” over the qualifications of lawyers Vivian Dabu and Velez after it officially denied their confirmation as provincial administrator and provincial legal officer, respectively.

“In Resolution 936, the PB found the qualifications of Dabu and Velez both appointed by Panlilio to be insufficient and therefore, considered them disqualified to assume the positions of provincial administrator and provincial legal officer.    – Ric Sapnu
